3D Printed Lamp

The Goal:

This project was to make an aesthetic lantern/lamp for my friend as a Christmas gift using the lamp internals of a Himalayan salt lamp. I had an old salt lamp that I was not using so I decided to make something out of it to turn it into something I would use regularly.

Inspiration:

I came across a lighting company named Gantri and fell in love with the design of their Maksor Table lamp. Looking at the lamp’s simplicity I figured that I could make something very similar to it using my 3D printer. On top of this, I found another company, Wooj, which specializes in 3D-printed lamps, and decided to turn my idea into reality.

Summary:

I wanted a simple light fixture that could work in multiple locations and give the area the same aesthetic feel. I took the internals of a salt lamp which included a light bulb connected to a small base with a dimming switch that connected to an outlet. As with most lamps, I had to ensure that the shade of the lamp could be removed easily to access the bulb in case of replacement.

If I could rework it:

The designing and modeling of this project were pretty simple but what I had trouble with and would rework, is the mechanism used to join the two parts. I used a coupler-like design where the top piece would be inserted into the base and rotated and locked into place. This design worked however I would want to redesign this to make it so that I would not have to create support material for either of the pieces while still allowing them to join together with ease.
